TThis online course introduces the various procedural and regulatory aspects of exporting spices, garments, as well as fresh and processed food from Sri Lanka, including to the EU and SAARC markets. It begins with a detailed overview of compliance, both with Sri Lankan national export regulations as well as with the requirements in place in the importing country. It then moves on to discuss packaging and labelling, sea and air freight procedures, before finally concluding with a discussion of the particular issues affecting the exports of spices, garments, and food from Sri Lanka, as well as the challenges facing these industries as a whole.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This online course introduces the various procedural and regulatory aspects of exporting spices, garments, as well as fresh and processed food from Sri Lanka, including to the EU and SAARC markets.

It begins with a detailed overview of compliance, both with Sri Lankan national export regulations as well as with the requirements in place in the importing country. It then moves on to discuss packaging and labelling, sea and air freight procedures, before finally concluding with a discussion of the particular issues affecting the exports of spices, garments, and food from Sri Lanka, as well as the challenges facing these industries as a whole.  

The course is facilitated by experienced professionals working in the Sri Lankan spice, garment and food industries, who are available to provide assistance and guide participants through the materials and activities. They will also be responsible for evaluating participant performance through case study assessments, which serve as the final test for the course.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the rationale behind the existence of regulatory requirements to export spices, garments and food from Sri Lanka;
  • Identify import clearance requirements and understand their purpose and impact on exporters;
  • Evaluate a variety of air and sea freight shipping and packaging options; and
  • Determine the regulatory and documentary procedures to export spices, food and garments from Sri Lanka.
